In my opinion, being introverted and being a blogger, can be a powerful combination. It’s a chance to get your voice heard. But not only that… It’s a chance to inspire others and to create an amazing life for yourself. Here’s my story on how I achieved this…

Being an introvert, I kinda found it intimidating to express myself in a LOUD world…

… Thinking no one would want to hear what I had to say or share… Or that my opinions just didn’t really matter.

It wasn’t until I decided to start a blog that I realised I had it all wrong.

I have been able to travel the world for coming on two years now, all while being able to inspire other ‘quiet ones’ that any life they desire is theirs for the taking…

Who knew that by going zip lining in Costa Rica, taking surf lessons in Ecuador, road tripping through the USA, snowboarding in Canada, and all that other random stuff in between, would actually encourage others to go after their dreams… And to think it all started with a little personal blog… I mean, I don’t even blog regularly!

Before getting into the meat and potatoes of how I have been able to travel the world while blogging, I want to share a little of my story with you first… Just because I know you might be able to relate.

For a long time I doubted myself and if I could be successful… From a young age I planned to go to university, get that piece of paper, then work my way up the accounting corporate ladder.

On the surface I thought that was what I wanted… But in my mind there was a lot of resistance. While staring aimlessly at my textbooks, I was writing books in my head… I was choreographing dance in my mind… And I was dreaming of places far away.

No wonder why I thought I could never be a successful accountant… My heart just wasn’t in it. And even though I still graduated from that degree, pursuing it as a career just wasn’t a fit for me.

So there I was; certain I didn’t want to be an accountant, but confused with what to do instead.

This was where blogging became an option…

blogging

You see, the internet has been a saving grace for introverts around the world. It’s become a place where we can share whatever we have to say and be heard just as clear as the loud ones… And I think that’s pretty darn cool!

It’s also been the mechanism to help people create an alternative lifestyle for themselves. If you travel the world nowadays you’ll bump into countless people who consider themselves ‘Digital Nomads’. I must say, I still have to pinch myself that I too, can call myself one!

Anyway, the more I looked into blogging, the more people I found who were able to turn blogging into a business… And long story short, I modelled off a couple of people and created my own blog ‘Intrepid Introvert’ and was able to monetise it they same way other bloggers were monetising theirs!

I’m not saying it was easy or that it worked overnight and I know I still have a lot more work to do to get better at it… But there are a few key things I picked up on that I want to share with you today.

Working in Ecuador

The important things to know when creating a blog are:

  1. You need to know yourself. You need to be true to yourself and your passions. You don’t want to write about things that don’t interest you. So straight from the get-go, do you.
  2. Know your audience… Often your audience will be a reflection of yourself. So if you stick with my first tip, the audience will come to you naturally
  3. Know what your audience wants, and provide them with it. This is how you can monetise from your blog all while giving value to your readers!

I know, blogging might sound hard and that you need to be a tech guru to set one up… I thought the same. Plus it took me a long time to build up the courage to put myself out there in the ‘online world’.

But looking back, they were minor problems and I was only holding myself back.

So that’s why today I am encouraging you to create a blog of your own… Even if you don’t know what to write about just yet. Even if right now, you don’t want to share it with the world…. Who knows where it could lead for you!

That’s why I have created a step by step guide for you on how to create a blog!

You can check it out here!

It only takes about 30 mins (if that) to follow through the steps!

If you already have a blog- share with me below! I would love to follow along.

Happy creating!

  1. Hi Hannah!
Found your blog through Instagram. This is so great! I’m also an introvert, and opened a blog as well, a little hesitant about it at first but it’s starting to come together.. still a long way to go! Thanks for sharing!

  4. Love your blog Hannah! I am a fellow introvert (and a traveling kiwi too 😁) and I too use my blog as a way to speak out (without actually having to speak out loud), so I love knowing that there is someone else out there who is just like me 😊

  5. Hey Hannah! Have been following you and Nate for a bit now and have come back from a family holiday (in NZ actually!) and your stuff has just inspired me. Just wanted to sincerely thank you guys for being a great inspiration. I love how you guys are so true to who you are. As a self proclaimed introvert myself (haha), I find I express myself way better through written text and starting a blog is definitely my way to being heard and sharing my stories without worrying whether people would want to hear it or not. You (and nate) have fired me up and have helped me get that much closer to my goals. So thanks!! xx

    • Oh Kim that’s so great to hear! Please be sure to share your blog with us once it’s up and running 🙂 I hope you enjoyed your holiday in my Homeland! 😀 😀

  6. Hey Hannah! I agree! I am an introvert who figures out what I feel and think through writing. When I was in school I hated writing and felt I was horrible at it, but now I can’t imagine living without it as an outlet for figuring myself out which in turn (when I post it) helps others figure themselves out! Power to us introverts for finding a way to share our thoughts. Thanks for the encouragement.
